Marvel Movies Get Release Dates + See ‘Avengers’ Blu-Ray Bonus Footage
Make sure to mark your calendars for the next couple of years true believers. Disney has announced the dates for all the next upcoming Phase Two movies of the Marvel cinematic universe:
- Iron Man 3 – May 3rd, 2013
- Thor: The Dark World – November 8th, 2013
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier – April 4th, 2014
- Guardians of the Galaxy – August 1st, 2014
- Avengers 2 – May 1st, 2015
Joss Whedon will once again take the creative reins as both writer and director for the next Avengers movie, which we’re all dead excited for I’m sure.
With the release of Marvel’s The Avengers on Blu-ray next month, one
of the special features is a documentary on how Marvel pulled off its
cinematic chronicle of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Titled “Building a Cinematic Universe,” the 90-minute documentary
covers everything from the origins of the Avengers characters in Marvel
Comics, to how producer Kevin Feige and his team at Marvel Studios set
out to build an ambitious big-screen world through a series of
standalone films before incorporating them all into one epic
blockbuster. It incorporates interviews with the stars, creators and
producers, behind-the-scenes footage from throughout Marvel’s “Phase
One” films and snippets of panels from San Diego Comic-Con dating back
six years.
The late Joe Simon, who co-created Captain America way back in 1941,
makes an appearance to talk about how the character came to be, and of
course Stan “The Man” Lee is around to talk about the birth of the
Marvel Age of Comics. Then there’s writer/director Joss Whedon and Feige
talking about how the decision was made to get Hawkeye in on these
movies, and fascinating Comic-Con moments that reveal just how long ago
Feige was laying the groundwork for this flick.
The Avengers hits Blu-ray and DVD Sept. 25.
